After graduating from Edinburgh University with a BSc in Geology, Màiri worked towards a PhD in Geochemistry & Volcanology, investigating the plumbing systems of andesite volcanoes at the University College of Cork. During this time, she also worked as a demonstrator, administrative assistant and tutor in the Department of Geology, the Centre for Adult Continuing Education and in Disability Support Services. It was whilst in these roles that she became more involved in education and the promotion of science.
