Màiri Gardner
After graduating from Edinburgh University with a BSc in Geology, Màiri worked towards a PhD in Geochemistry & Volcanology, investigating the plumbing systems of andesite volcanoes at the University College of Cork. During this time, she also worked as a demonstrator, administrative assistant and tutor in the Department of Geology, the Centre for Adult Continuing Education and in Disability Support Services. It was whilst in these roles that she became more involved in education and the promotion of science. She went on to complete her Post Graduate Certificate of Education in Chemistry at the University of Oxford and obtained her qualified teacher status in the UK before moving to Trieste, Italy where she was a teacher at the United World College of the Adriatic. She taught Chemistry, Biology, English B and Environmental Systems and Societies as part of the IB Diploma Programme.
She is currently working part-time in a support role as a project manager for the Thermodynamics and energetics of quantum systems group.
